Louisiana Restoration Franchise Opportunities

Change the Tides in Disaster-Prone Louisiana By Owning a New Orleans Restoration Franchise

Louisiana experiences a high rate of natural disasters and over the past 15 years has endured some of the deadliest, most expensive, and damaging weather events ever recorded. Being a low-lying area along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico means that Louisiana can expect frequent hurricanes, heavy rains, and flash flooding disasters. With frequent and damp natural disasters, residents throughout New Orleans and Louisiana can expect extensive water damages that can destroy homes and businesses, infrastructure of buildings in the area, and irreplaceable personal belongings. When this happens, and it happens quite too often in New Orleans and nearby Louisiana cities, quality disaster restoration services are needed, which is why we’re hoping to bring on new restoration franchise owners in New Orleans, Lafayette, and Lake Charles as soon as possible.

But why are storms in Louisiana so widespread and disastrous? Part of the intensity of these storms is caused by its low-lying geographical location in addition to worsening global warming effects. Global warming has led to heavier levels of rainfall which causes extensive flooding and river overflow as well as extremely dangerous and intense hurricanes. In addition to global warming effects, storms throughout Louisiana are worse than other areas of the country because of its proximity to the Gulf. The waters of the Gulf of Mexico are warmer than other waters and this heat adds fuel to incoming storms, increasing rainfall, duration, and intensity.

Louisiana’s History of Disasters Provides Opportunities for Restoration Franchises to Help

Did you know that Louisiana is one of the most disaster-prone states in the entire country? Since 1953, over 60 major disasters have been declared state-wide. With this statistic, Louisiana is also, unfortunately, ranked as the state with the third highest annual natural disaster related costs in the United States. Part of this costly statistic is due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina — a disastrous weather event that will be remembered in infamy due to its widespread damages and costly results.

In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina first swept through the Caribbean and Florida before finally moving up the Gulf of Mexico and striking the southern mouth of the Mississippi River near New Orleans, then finally moving northward. Before even hitting land, experts were predicting that this Category 5 hurricane would be catastrophic. Heavy rains and storms whipped through the area, producing winds reaching 125 miles per hour. After several days, Hurricane Katrina left millions of people displaced and hundreds of thousands of homes completely destroyed. The results of Hurricane Katrina climbed up to $125 billion in personal property damages, the costliest storm in the history of the United States. 911 Restoration witnessed the devastation and destruction firsthand, as we sent disaster restoration crews to the area to help during this crisis.

While Hurricane Katrina was the deadliest and most destructive tropical storm in the history of the United States, other storms throughout Louisiana have been common, widespread, and disastrous as well, including:

  • Early Hurricanes: In the mid-20th century, several hurricanes occurred throughout Louisiana, including Audrey, Camille, and Betsy. At the time, these were several of the worst storms in state history. Hurricane Betsy of 1965 destroyed up to 160,000 homes and four years later, Hurricane Camille killed 259 people and caused up to $1.42 billion in damages.
  • May 1995 Flooding: Due to the warm air in the Gulf of Mexico, storms along the coast are especially strong and intense. In the Spring of 1995, over 20 inches of rain fell throughout New Orleans and its surrounding areas, causing extensive flooding. The end result of this flash flooding caused over $3 billion in property damage throughout the area.
  • Hurricane Andrew: While this storm mostly caused devastation throughout Florida and the Caribbean, Hurricane Andrew’s effects trickled west towards Louisiana. Storm tides led to flooding along the coasts and caused several tornadoes which equaled $1.56 billion in damages.
  • Hurricane Rita: A month after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Hurricane Rita struck. Rita was the fourth most intense storm ever recorded and caused about $8 billion in damage to Louisiana.
  • August 2016 Flooding: Of the most recent weather events throughout the state, the most impactful and damaging was the flooding during the Summer of 2016. The flooding was caused by extremely heavy downpours as well as rivers overflowing. This event was considered more harmful than Hurricane Sandy, with over 30 inches of rainfall throughout the state. At least 40,000 homes were damaged and a total of $8 billion disaster costs were reported.
